Question 2
DELE CHARLEY: The Blood of a Stranger
Examine the observance of custom in Mandoland.
Observation
This was a popular question. Most of the candidates could not discuss the observance of culture in Mandoland adequately, rather they narrated events in the play.
The required answers should include:
- The flout of custom in the play and Kindo’s attempt to withhold it to his own detriment.
- The King who does not have a mind of his own about custom.
- Maligu and Soko’s trample on custom.
- Soko’s office and his debase of custom.
- Ways in which the people are manipulated to abuse custom.
Candidates’ performance in the question was fair.
