A good number of candidates attempted this question. However, many of the candidates gave a mere mention of repetition and rhetorical questions which could not be linked with the context of the poem. Hence, they failed to meet the demands of the question.
The required answers should include:

• Statement/Explanation of the theme.
• Relevance of the use of the devices.
• Identification of repetition and its literary function in explaining/advancing the theme.
• Identification of rhetorical question and its literary function in explaining/advancing the theme.
• The combined effects of these in accentuating the frustrations of the living.

Candidates’ performance was poor.
