A good number of candidates attempted this question but could not grasp the demands of the question as they could not understand the poem itself.

Candidates were expected to discuss the following points:

• The theme of death as a transition.
• The certainty of death and the persona’s hope for life hereafter.
• Crossing the bar and its attendant strains.
• The sorrows of those left behind.
• The hope of meeting his creator eventually.

Candidates’ performance was poor.
