The question was popular among the candidates and it was well attempted by most of the candidates. However, some candidates failed to give enough points to get good marks in the question. In order to score high marks in the question candidates were expected to state some of the following points:
(a) Ragtime, Salsa, Blues, Soul, Pop, Hip-hop, Spirituals, Gospel, Calypso, Afrobeat, Rock, Rhythm and Blues (R&B), Country music, Rock and Roll (R&R)
(b) (i) Reggae originated from Carribean whereas Jazz developed in America.
(ii) Reggae is usually vocal based while jazz is instrumental based.
(iii) Jazz is more of improvisation than Reggae.
(iv) Reggae is often associated with political protests while jazz is purely
entertainment based.
(v) Reggae is participatory while Jazz is contemplative.
(vi) Jazz is elitist while Reggae populist.
(c) Trumpet, bass guitar, lead guitar, saxophone, trombone, piano, keyboard,
drum set, maracas.
