Candidates did not understand the qualities of a good singing thereby losing the obtainable marks. They were expected to respond to the question thus:
(a) i. A large scale and vocal composition for chorus, solo and orchestra,
succession of choruses, arias duets, recitative and orchestra
A dramatic vocal work on a religious subject performed in a concert hall or church. Biblical stories set to vocal compositions with orchestral accompaniment.
(ii) A religious song with a simple tune in vernacular language sung by congregation.
The strophic congregational hymn of the protestant church in German
Hymn tune sung in the church by choir and congregation.
(iii) An oratorio based on the events leading to the crucifixion of Christ.
Settings to music of the account of the suffering and crucifixion of Christ
Music about the sufferings, death and resurrection of Christ.
(b) (i) Correct breathing and breath control
Good attack and release
Correct pitching
Correct resonance (projection)
Correct diction and articulation
Good expression and dynamics
Accurate rhythm
