This question was well attempted but a few candidates responded wrongly by not knowing the difference between handling the instruments and the blowing techniques. This caused them to lose a better part of the obtainable marks. Such candidates should have responded thus:
(a) (i) Instruments that only play at the pitches of their notation as
against concert pitches
OR
They are instruments whose parts are usually written in different keys, so as to sound or be in tune with the correct pitch.
(ii) Clarinet in A, B flat Clarinet, Cor- anglais, (English horn)
(b) Holding the left hand near the mouth piece.
Holding involves both hands
Holding Straight down
Holding in a way that the mouthpiece points to the mouth
(c) Tonguing, blowing, breath control, full covering of holes, covering of notes, using the finger pad to cover the hole
