Candidates did not respond to this question appropriately. They could not give the functions of Couplers and Foundation stops, just as they could not demonstrate any understanding of the working mechanism of the pipe organ. This made them to lose the obtainable marks. Their responses should have highlighted some of the following:
(a) (i) Makes it possible for the organist to combine manual to
manual, and manual to pedal board.
(ii) These are organ stops with fundamental tones.
(b) Swell and great.
(c) Flutes, Strings, Reed.
(d) Air is blown into pipes through the electric blower is produced through pipes when the keys are played. Air vibrates within the tuned pipes to produce sounds.
