State the function of each of the following modes in digital camera:
- P;
- AV;
- TV or S;
- Auto or A;
- Scene.
Observation
Most candidates did not answer this question. The candidates were expected to provide the following answers in order to score good marks:
(a) P (Programme Mode)
In Programme, the camera sets the shutter speed and aperture based on a built –in programme/setting, which also allows the photographer to change some other settings, such as metering system, flash selection ISO.
(b) AV (Aperture Priority)
Aperture priority mode allows the photographer to choose/select the aperture (f/stop) setting, while the camera determines the suitable/appropriate shutter for a proper exposure.
(c) TV/S (Shutter Priority)
Shutter priority mode allows the photographer to set the shutter speed, while the camera selects the appropriate aperture for a proper exposure.
(d) Auto/A (Auto Mode)
In auto mode, the camera selects all settings for proper exposure based on
available light in the scene being photographed with minimal input from the photographer.
(e) Scene
In scene mode, the photographer selects a preferred mode icon i.e. landscape, portrait, night shot macro, sports, weather as preset by the camera.
