This question was attempted by many candidates and their performance was good.  In part (a) candidates correctly listed factors that can determine choice of a tournament.  In part (b) candidates wrongly took the following points as functions of the West African University Games e.g. to develop physical fitness, to develop muscles, for entertainment, to encourage provision of facilities and equipment, to become good citizen and discovery of talents and skills.

          -    promotes  friendship new association/as net-working is encouraged
          -    awards/cups/trophies/medals etc to outstanding teams/athletes
          -    affliates the West African Universities to various international sports bodies.
