Observation

This question was attempted by many candidate and their performance was poor. 
They wrote wrong answers such as stopwatch, red flag, white flag and yellow card as materials needed by starter. 

In part (a) (i), and (ii) many candidates could not correctly list material needed by starter and track judge.

In part (b) few candidates correctly stated reasons why officiating is important during an athletic meet, they wrote wrong answers such as board marker chair to view and all track event as materials needed by starter.

However, the expected answers are as follows:

• starting gun/clapper/pistol
• whistle
• red arm sleeve/red jacket/hat
• ear protection/ear plug
• hand held loud speaker

• whistle
• red flag
• white flag/yellow flag        
• numbered tags for placing athletes
• recording sheet

   (b)   REASONS FOR OFFICIATING DURING ATHLTICS MEET

• for athletes to obey rules and regulations
• to have record for future references
• to guarantee flow of activities/avoid disruption during activities.
• to reduce/minimize the incidence of injury during the meet
• to give sense of fairplay  to both athletes and spectators
• to maintain orderliness/safety/to prevent violence
• to determine winner
