Observation

This question was attempted by many candidates and their performance was poor. 

In part (a) (i) candidates could not correctly list materials need by field judge during an athletic meet,  they wrote wrong answers such red flag, white flag, yellow flag, stop watch, wrist watch recording sheet, pencil and electronic timing system and in (ii) candidates correctly listed materials needed by time keeper.

In part (b) candidate could not state faults that can affect performance in hurdle event, they gave wrong answers such as lack of strength, injuries such as cramps, poor approach run towards the stand, bad performance, lack of practice, low jump, lack of space and lack of encouragement.

The expected answers are as follows:

  (b)      FAULTS THAT CAN AFFECT PERFORMANCE IN HURDLES EVENT 
-     poor take-off      

•     hitting/knocking the hurdle
•     running flat footed/poor sprint mechanics
•     improper swinging of the arms
•     turning of the shoulder out of line/wrong body positioning
•     looking backwards
•     looking at the knee         
•     jumping over hurdles
•     uncoordinated rhythm/uneven strides
