Observation

This question was attempted by many candidates and their performance was good. In part (a) many candidates did well by mentioning objectives of the National Sports festival, but some candidates gave wrong answers such as Olympic Sports festival, Egungun Sports festival, Iyamoye Sports festival, Eyo Sports festival, e.t.c. In part (b) majority of the candidates answered this question correctly by stating objectives of extramural sports competitions, nevertheless, some gave wrong answers such as jumping, through vault, high jump, table tennis e.t.c. 
The expected answers are as follow:

 5. (a)  OBJECTIVES OF THE NATIONAL SPORTS FESTIVAL
-           to foster sense of patriotism and nationalism
-           to serve as a  means of public entertainment
-           to foster friendly relationship amongst the states of the Federation
-           to discourage all forms of discrimination / promote national identity among the various ethnic groups
-           to foster national unity/peace
-           to create an avenue for identifying potential athletes to represent the country in the international sports competitions
-           to help in the development of sports nationwide
-           to promote cultural interaction and respect

(b)   OBEJCTIVES OF EXTRAMURAL SPORTS PROGRAMME
-  to develop the spirit of good sportsmanship
-  to develop the attitude of cooperation with others
-   to encourage the exposure of pupils/students
-  encourages interaction / making new friends
- develops followership qualities in pupils/students
-  develops leadership qualities in pupils/students
- fosters the spirit of unity among pupils/students from different schools/background
-  encourages the appreciation of other people’s culture
- identifies and selects talents
