Observation
This question was attempted by many candidates and their performance was fair. In part (a) many candidates did well it. In part (b)(i) and (ii) majority of the candidates were unable to mention advantages and diaadvantages of a league tournament.
The expected answers are as follow:
(a) Factors that hinder the organization of sports competition
- lack of facilities;
- lack of equipment;
- lack of fund/insufficient fund;
- non-compromising attitudes; of teachers and Heads of schools towards the teaching of Physical Education
- anti-social relationship; among sport officials/corruption/Explained
- cultural/Traditional Practices
- religion beliefs;
- poor reward and intensive system for athletes;
- government policy;
- inadequate personnel/officials;
- large participants which affects constant continuous assessment exercise
- Physical Environment/climate/weather/named
- Insecurity
(b) (i)Advantages of a league tournament
- it gives opportunity for the true champions to emerge;
- it permits all participating teams to continue to play to the end;
- it does not require one team waiting for others to complete the round;
- it improves individual team’s skills and techniques;
- it makes for the best to win and not by chance;
- it gives equal opportunity to all teams.
(ii)Disadvantages of a league tournament
- time consuming;
- it demands a lot of fund;
- it exhausts players;
- the relegated team develops inferiority complex;
- the weak team experiences depression.
