(a) Explain each of the following terms in relation to the game of hockey:

(b) State four instances when a fault is called in the game of handball. [4 marks]
Observation
This question was not well answered by the candidates.
In part (a), majority of the candidates could not explain the terminologies in the game of hockey.
In part (b), few candidates were able to state four instances when a fault is called in the game of handball.
The expected answers are as follow:
(a) Explanation of terms as used in the game of hockey
i Back stick – Using the rounded part of the hockey stick/opposite / backside of the flat face to play the ball.
ii Hit- Striking the ball with force over a long distance.
iii Penalty corner – An award given to attacking team for an offence by a defender from defending team in the circle which does not prevent the scoring of a goal/named.
OR
A penalty awarded against a defending player/team for an infringement /offence committed within the penalty area or 2-3 metre area
(b) Instances when a fault is called in the game of handball
- incorrect substitution /entering the court against the rules
- infringement by the goalkeeper /explained
- infringement by the court players in the goal line/side line/explained
- passive play / time wasting
- infringement in connection with throw-in; goal keeper – throw, free throw, 7- metre throw /explained
- unsportsmanlike conduct /explained
- deliberately playing across the outer goal line /sideline/explained
- taking more than three steps with the ball.
