Study it and answer questions 1(a), (b) and (c).

 

  1. (a)  (i)    Name the style used by the athlete in performing the event illustrated above  [1 mark]
    (ii)   List three other styles associated with the event illustrated in the diagram             [3 marks]
    (iii)   State the four phases involved in performing the event illustrated above.            [4 marks]

      (b)  List four pieces of equipment used in the event illustrated above.           [4 marks]

     (c)   Name four other field events apart from the one illustrated in the diagram above   [4 marks]

      (d)   Explain the following terms in athletics:
    (i)       torse;    
    (ii)       scratch line;                
    (iii)     anchorman; [6 marks]

       (e)   Mention three events in athletics in which competitors run over obstacles.    [3 marks] 

Observation

 

This question was attempted by many candidates and their performance was good. 

In part (a) (i) candidates could not correctly name the style used by the athlete in performing high jump, in (ii) candidates correctly listed other styles associated with the event illustrated i. e. high jump, in (iii) candidates also correctly stated the phases involved in performing the high jump. 

In part (b) candidates correctly listed pieces of equipment used in the high jump. 

In part (c) candidates also named other field events apart from high jump. 

In part (d) candidates could not explain torso, scratch line and anchorman as terms used in athletics, only few candidates correctly explained anchorman as term in athletics.

In part (e) candidates could not mention events in athletics in which competitors run over obstacles
