Weakness and Remedies
The candidates’ weaknesses include their inability to:
- cover the WAECÂ syllabus
- understand some questions asked
- explain torso, scratch line and anchorman
- mention events in athletics in which competitors run over obstacles
- classify the 800m, 1,500m, 3,000m, 5,000m and 10,000m as events into middle or long distance race
- state instance in which a discus thrower commits a fault
- state rules for the use of baton in relay race
- explain why hurdles is considered a track event
- explain striker, defender and mid-field player as terms used in football game
- state instances when a free throw is awarded in handball game
- explain the term travelling in relation to basketball game
- state instances in which the referee blows the whistle in a volleyball game
- state duties of a referee in basketball game
- explain set point, volley and lob as terms used in tennis game
- state faults which could be committed during rally in badminton game
- state duties of an umpire in a table tennis game
- mention the game for which the facility is used
- name parts of the badminton court and labelled I, II, III and IV
- explain service fault and baseline as terms used in tennis game
- state the scores of first point, second point, third point and fifth point in tennis game
- define vaulting activity in gymnastics
- give examples of vaulting activities in gymnastics
- state safety measures in gymnastics
- state safety precautions to be taken when performing vaulting activities in gymnastics
- state faults associated with head stand and cartwheel as gymnastic activities
The following remedies wee suggested to overcome these weaknesses;
- candidates should endeavour to cover WAEC syllabus in preparation for the examination
- questions should be well read for proper understanding before answering the questions
- candidates should read extensively and look for subject expert (qualified teacher) for the explanation of terms and subject content
- candidates should also visit stadia, sports centres and amusement parks for better understanding of facilities and equipment used in sports and games.
