Observation

The question attracted a many candidates. Performance was encouraging as many could not differentiate the difference between watercolour and gouache painting. The candidates were expected to answer in the following way:

A.        DRAWING              

(i)         Effective representation of the theme: Village Market Scene.                              
(ii)        Appropriate use of proportions and perspective in the composition.                     
         
B.        COMPOSITION      

(i)         Skillful arrangement of all elements in the watercolour painting.                        
(ii)        Representation of appropriate setting in a market scene.                                       
(iii)       Judicious use of space provided.                                                                               

                                     
C.        COLOUR                 

(i)         Effective mixture, application and distribution in water colour painting.              

(ii)        Should show tones and direction of lights on all objects and figures.                   

(iii)       Choice of colours that contrast and harmonize.                                                        

         
D.        INTERPRETATION          

(i)         Correct and pleasing representation of the theme: Village Market Scene.            

        
E.        ORIGINALITY                   

(i)         Personalized style in the composition and overall visual effect.
