OBSERVATION
This question was popular with the candidates. In question 9(a) (i & ii), majority of the candidates were able to define demand and price elasticity of demand.

This is because the higher the price the lower the quantity of goods demanded or the lower the price the higher the quantity of goods demanded.

However, in 9( d) (i & ii), majority of the candidates could not state the advantages and disadvantages of newspapers and television as agricultural extension teaching methods.

    • NEWSPAPER
    • Advantages
    • They have a long lasting effect since fanners can always refer to previous information
    • They can also be used in areas where there is no electricity The pictures they often carry serve as useful teaching aids They are less expensive
    • Can be widely circulated
    • Disadvantages
    • Newspapers cannot easily reach all fanning communities because of bad roads
    • Besides, newspapers do not have information feedback mechanism It is also true that not all fanners can afford to buy newspapers Their use is restricted to only few literate fannersT
    • TELEVISION
    • Advantages
    • Television is particularly effective in the dissemination of agricultural information because the farmers learn by both hearing and seeing clear pictures of what is being taught
    • Messages conveyed by television tend to last longer in the minds of the farmers It also makes it possible for such information to reach farming communities that are not accessible by roads
    • Disadvantages
    • Television sets are expensive and not all fanners can own them It requires source of power to operate
    • Use of television does not allow the extension worker to get a feedback on the lessons taught.
    • Transmission may not reach all areas.
