Question 4

A shunt motor has the following features:
Back e.m.f (Eb) = 220V ;
Field resistance (rf) = 150W;
Field current (If) = 1.5A;
Supply current (I) = 31.5A.

Calculate the:

(i) terminal voltage;

(ii) armature resistance;

(ii) power output at the motor shaft.

Observation

The expected answers were;

(i)        Terminal voltage (Vt)          =  rfIf
                                                       =  1.5  x  150

                                                            =  225 V

.

(ii) Armature Resistance: Ia ra + Eb  =  Vt

(iii)     Po        =  Eb  x  Ia
                      =  220  x  30

                          =  6,600W
