Basic Electricity 2, WASSCE (PC 2ND), 2018

Question 1

  •  State two factors that affect the resistance of a metallic conductor.
  •  A 1.5 mm2 conductor is 4500 m long. If the resistivity is 1.72 x 10-8 Ωm, calculate its resistance.

             The expected responses were:
(a)  Factors that affect the resistance of a metallic conductor

  • Temperature
  • Length
  • Cross-sectional area
  • Nature of material

Observation

Many of the candidates that attempted this question did very well with the exception of those that had issues with converting mm2 to m2.
