  2. (i)         Identify the component.
    (ii)        Name the parts labelled M, N, P, and Q.
    (b i)      State the function of the cooling system.
    (ii)        Name the two types of cooling system.
    (c i)      Sketch the leading and trailing shoe arrangement of a hydraulic brake
    system and label three of its parts.     
    (ii)       State the function of the brake system.

  • To maintain the engine temperature within safe limits.
  • To remove excess heat from the engine.
  • It raises the engine temperature to its operational level as fast as possible.
  • It provides heat to the passenger/ driver’s compartment.

  • It is used to slow down or stop motion of the vehicle in either direction by converting mechanical energy to heat energy through friction, no matter the speed of the vehicle.
  • It prevents the vehicle from rolling when it is parked without the driver inside
