OBSERVATION

This was the .more popular question in this section and candidates performed better. Most candidates could correctly identify the organisms from which specimens A and B were got and could correctly state their habitats. A good number of candidates however lost marks for the habitats because of spelling errors, some candidates wrote 'terrestial instead of terrestrial' and 'acquatic' instead of' aquatic'
Many candidates could not state how the features of specimens A and B adapt the organisms to their mode oflife. Expected answers include:
Adaptation of environment
Specimen A
Presence of digits; for walking on land;
Position of digits/three forward, one backward/presence of digits; for grasping/perching on surfaces
presences of claws on digits; for digging/searching/scratching for food/defence
presence of scales on foot to prevent desiccation/drying
Specimen B
Webbed digits; or swimming/paddling in water/increase surface area for walking on mud.
Presence of claws; for digging for food;
Presence of scales on foot to prevent/protect against desiccation/drying/injury.
Most candidates could however state the similarities and differences between specimen AlSkeleton foot and specimen B/duck foot.
In drawing specimen B/duck foot most candidates made fair diagrams with adequate details but many candidates lost marks due to their inability to title the diagram, not conforming to size specifications, free hand guidelines drawing and poor spelling of labels.
