Observation

 

  Majority of the candidates were able to list the five floor finishes;

However, they failed to state five stages involved in laying a cement-sand screed on a concrete floor slab using a ready mixed mortar.

The expected response to question 3 is as given below:

 

(a)        Five floor finishes are:

(i) screed

(ii)ceramic tile

(iii)pvc tile

(iv)clay tile

(v)terrazzo

(vi)mosaic floor finish ( wood, concrete)

(vii)timber flooring ( wood block, T & G boarding ).   

 

  (b)     Five stages involved in laying a cement sand screed:
                     (i)        provide a key to the concrete surface;
                     (ii)       remove debris and make damp;
                     (iii)      establish the required screed thickness with mortar dab at predetermined points
                    (iv)      spread the mortar in between the established mortar dabs;

                        (v)       bring the surface to the required finish and protect against damage.
