(a)        State four functional requirements of a window.

(b)        Sketch a casement window with a vent light and label the following
(i)vent light

(ii)window frame

(iii)transom

(iv)mullion

 

Observation

 

Most candidates were able to:

-         state the functional requirements of a window correctly;
-         sketch a casement window with a vent light;
-         label the parts correctly.
However, some of them failed to:
-        sketch the casement window with a vent light correctly.


The expected response to question 4 is as given below:

 

(a )       Functional requirements of a windows are:
(i)         fire resistance;
(ii)        sound insulation;
(iii)       strength and stability;
(iv)       thermal insulation;
(v)        exclusion of wind and rain water;
(vi)       it allows ventilation into the room;
(vii)      it allows light into the room.
