Observation

-           State two functions of a road kerb.
-           State two desirable properties of materials used for the construction of a pedestrian walkway.
However, majority of the candidates were not able to sketch the elevation of steel gate in a fence wall and label the following parts:

(i)shutter;

(ii)concrete post;

(iii)fence wall.

The expected response to question 5 is as given below:

(i)to define the roadway limit;

(ii)to prevent erosion on the sides of the road;

(iii)to define pedestrian walkway;

(iv)to direct surface water into the road gutter.

(b)      Desirable properties of a material used for the construction of a pedestrian walkway:

(i)it should be durable;

(ii)it should  have sufficient strength;

(iii)it should be impermeable to water;

(iv)it should be resistant to friction.
