Question 6

(i). THE ACTIVITIES OF THE TWO ROBBERS (MATT. 27: 38 & 44, LUKE. 23:39-43)
(ii)   THE ACTIVITIES OF JOSEPH OF ARIMATHEA (MATT. 27:57-66, MARK 15:42-47, LUKE 23:50-56)

Observation

A good number of the candidates were attracted to this question and they performed well in both the A and B parts. Though the pattern of the question is new, candidates were still able to give the required points that were demanded from them. This question also served as bonus to those who were familiar with the bible passage and thus, they answered the question correctly thereby scoring high marks in it. Area of candidate’s strength to this question was that they were able to outline the parts played by these characters in the life of Christ. Major weakness was attributed to the fact that some candidates mixed the activities of Joseph of Arimathea with that of Simon of Cyrene who carried the cross of Jesus Christ.
In the part B, the significance of the behaviours of the robbers to Christians was also well tackled. They were able to point out the hypocrisy of Christians today and how such acts affect Christianity and Christians living among non believers. In addition, some points candidates should have added include;

  1. It shows that been punished for a crime one had committed is different from persecution.
  2. Irrespective of our sins, Jesus Christ is ready to forgive us if we sincerely repent/There is need for humility.
  3. We should not judge others because we ourselves are sinners before God.
  4. We should always stand up for the truth irrespective of the challenges we face.
  5. We should not mock the weaknesses of others/Christians should avoid blasphemy.
  6. It shows that grace and salvation are needed before one can enter paradise/Need to trust and have faith in Christ who is merciful.
  7. One should learn to serve one’s punishment without feeling castigated.
  8. We should learn to take responsibility for our actions without shifting blame to others.
  9. Salvation is available even at the last hour
  10. Dependence on God in times of troubles and challenges.
