CANDIDATES’ WEAKNESSES
Candidates could not:
-           list three deductions that can be  made from the qualitative and quantitative analysis  of an organic compound;
-           state what would be observed when  concentrated hydrochloric acid reacts with K2Cr2O7;
-           write a balanced chemical equation to  show the acidic nature of C2H2 when reacted with sodium;
-           describe the processes involved in the  purification of water for human consumption;
-           describe one effect of acid rain on  building.
The following remedies were however suggested:
Candidates should
-           understand the demands of the  questions before responding to them;
  -           improve on their mathematical skill;
  -           ensure coverage of the syllabus  before the commencement of examination;
  -           know the difference between naming of  compounds and writing of formulae;
  -           learn how deduce the structures of  compounds from reaction schemes.
