Candidates' Weakness and Suggested Remedies

Candidates could not:
-           write formulae of compounds;
-           write and balance reaction equations;
-           name organic compounds;

-         state the difference between neutralization and esterification reactions;
-           list the physical properties of water.

The following remedies were however suggested:

Candidates should

-           understand the demands of the questions before responding to them;
-           improve on their mathematical skill;
-           ensure coverage of the syllabus before the commencement of examination;
-           be familiar with organic compounds;
-           learn how to write IUPAC names.
