Chemistry Paper 3 WASSCE (PRIVATE CANDIDATE), 2019

Weakness/Remedies

Candidates:

Candidates’ weaknesses were noticeable in the following areas:

    • some candidates used 2:1 as the mole ratio instead of 1:1

    • inability to deduce correct inferences from observations made from reactions.

    • poor knowledge of redox titration.

    • poor knowledge of mole concept.

    • poor knowledge of the difference that exists between Pb2+, Al3+ and Zn2+using chemical reagents.

    • failure to write the answer to the calculated concentration of base in 3 significant figures.

    • The following remedies were however suggested:

      candidates should

    • read and understand redox titration.

    • be familiar with the examination syllabus.

    • improve on their study habit.

    • improve on their mathematical skills.

    • learn how to write the correct charge on ions.
