CANDIDATES’ WEAKNESSES AND SUGGESTED REMEDIES

The candidates were unable to:

  • draw and label specimen A(Secchi disc);
  • State other ways of achieving the purpose for which specimen B(Aquarium aerator) is used in a fish pond;
  • -    state the activities that require the use of both specimens F(Hand  
         gloves) and G(Knife) in fish processing and preservation;
    -    state the precautions that should be taken when using specimen G(Knife);
    -     identify specimen H(Netting material);
    -    describe the artificial process of obtaining specimen L(Fingerling) from specimens
    M(Adult female Clarias) and N(Adult male Clarias).

    Consequent on the weaknesses observed from the candidates’ scripts, the Chief Examiners recommended as follow:

  • Only competent graduates of Fisheries should be saddled with the responsibility of teaching the subject in Senior Secondary Schools;
  • Fisheries should be taught as a practical oriented subject through laboratory activities, field trips, excursions etc; and
  •  

  • Adequate facilities and textbooks on Fisheries should be made available to enhance the teaching – learning of Fisheries in Senior Secondary Schools.
