Candidates' Weakness

 

The Chief Examiner reported that candidates’ responses indicated that majority of them were weak in the following areas:

  1. Failure to adhere to the rubrics of the questions/paper
  2. Representing given information in an appropriate diagram
  3. Application of the Laws of IndicesĀ 
  4. Investigating the range satisfying a given quadratic inequality
  5. Permutation and Combination
  6. Application of Binomial Expansion
  7. Differentiation from first principle
  8. Mechanics

 

    SUGGESTED REMEDIES

The following remedies were suggested by the Chief Examiner:

  1. Candidates were encouraged to cover all the topics in the syllabus while preparing for the examination.
  2. Teachers as well as candidates were encouraged to put in more effort in studying these observed weak areas.
  3. Teachers were encouraged to use instructional materials during lesson so as to re-enforce the learning of mathematical concepts
  4. Candidates were encouraged to read through each question carefully so as to understand its demands and adhere to the rubrics
  5. Candidates were encouraged to avail themselves of past WASSCE Further Mathematics questions.
