Question 3

(a) state the difference between the following pairs of words;

          (i) Gathering and shirring;

          (ii) Box pleat and inverted pleat;

          (iii) Ease allowance and seam allowance

     (b) State four factors to be considered when fixing prices for a garment.

Observation

 

 

Many of the candidates could not respond to question 3a correctly. They could not differentiate between pairs of wordsi.e.“gathering and shirring,” box pleat and inverted pleats and “ease allowance and seam allowance”.

The expected thus; gathering is answers for the questions are gathering is worked by pulling up two lines of stitching thatare also pulled to contract the fabric, box pleat is two knife pleats backing each other while an inverted pleat means two knife pleats meeting or In and ease allowance is the extra fabric added to garment for comfort while seam allowance is the extra fabric added during cutting for joining the pattern pieces.
