  1. Draw a sketch map of Nigeria.
  2. On the map, locate and name one area noted for the cultivation of

    • cocoa;
    • groundnut;
    • millet;
    • one town in each of the areas identified in 6(a)(i) to 6(a)(iii) above.

     

  3. Outline three problems of food crop cultivation in the savanna zone of Nigeria.
  4. In what two ways has cash crop production contributed to the economy of Nigeria?

Observation

The question was popularly answered by the candidates but their performance in the (a) component was poor because they could not draw good sketch maps. They performed better in the (b) and (c) components of the question. However, some of the candidates merely listed the points that were answers to the (c) component of the question. Trees listed as answers to the (b) component of the question included sapele wood, African walnut, okoume, ebony, mahogany, iroko/odum and obeche.
The contributions of forest vegetation to the economic development of Nigeria were:
            -           provides food;
            -           provides wood for construction purposes;
            -           timber for export/foreign exchange;
            -           provides jobs for hunters, lumbermen etc.;
            -           provides raw materials for industries;
            -           provision of fuel wood;
-           provides herbs for medicine;
-           attracts tourism;
-           provides raw materials for arts and crafts;
-           provides habitats for wild life.
