(a) (i) Name the parts labelled I,II,III and IV [ 2 marks ]

(ii) State two functions of the part labelled III [ 2 marks ]

(b) State three factors to be considered in siting the Structure illustrated in the diagram [ 3 marks ]

(c) State two natural disasters that can affect the structure Illustrated in the diagram. [ 2 marks ]

This question was attempted by many candidates and their performance was fair.  In part (a)(i) Few candidates correctly named the labelled part while many candidates named the labelled parts but wrong  spelling, and in (a)(ii) many candidates could not correctly state functions of the part labeled III in human habitat.  In part (b) many candidates could not correctly state factors to be considered in siting the human habitat, some candidates took factors for siting industries such as money/capital, raw materials and market, while some mentioned factors such as  good ventilation, source of water, refuse disposal, lighting system as factors to be considered in siting human habitat.  In part (c) many candidates correctly stated natural disasters that can affect the human habitats.  In part (d) many candidates also correctly named pests that use the structure illustrated as a habitat.

However, the expected answers are as follows:

1(a) (i) Parts labelled
 I  -   roof
II  -   air extractor
III -   louvre/window
IV -   door

 

      (ii)   Functions of the part labelled III

  • movement of air/circulation of air
  • prevent direct ray of the sun
  • provide privacy
  • allow light into the room.

  • social/infrastructural facilities
  • availability of land
  • accessibility to the site
  • correct direction for sunlight
  • well drained ground/soil type
