                 (c)   Explain each of the following disorders of the alimentary
canal:

  2. constipation;                                                                           
  3. appendicitis.                                                                 [6 marks]

Observation

This question was attempted by many candidates and their performance was very poor.  In part (a) candidates could not correctly define degenerative disease.  In part (b) candidates could not also mention degenerative diseases.  In part (c) candidates could not correctly explain gastroenteritis, constipation and appendicitis as disorders of the alimentary canal.

  3. stroke

 (c)     EXPLANATION DISORDERS OF THE ALIMENTARY CANAL

  1. GASTROENTERITIS

 

  1.  is an inflammation of the lining of the stomach/intestine.
  2. caused by bacteria taken in with food/food poison/giving rise to pain,  vomiting and diarrhoea

  1.  failure to pass faeces at regular intervals
  2.  leading to accumulation of faeces in the colon and return

 

  1.  APPENDICITIS
  1.  is an inflammation of the appendix caused by bacteria
giving rise to pain in the abdomen.
