The diagram below illustrates a worm in humans.
Study it and answer question 2(a),(i),(ii),(iii),(iv),(v),(b),(i),(ii) and (c)

 

  1. (i)   Identify the worm illustrated in the diagram[1 mark]

(ii)  State the shape of the worm illustrated   [1 mark ]

(iii)  Name the part of the human body in which the worm lives       [1 mark ]

(iv)  Mention two organisms in which the worm illustrated can be found.    [2 marks]  
(v)  Mention the mode of feeding by the worm illustrated  [1 mark ]

(b) (i)    Mention the two sources of infestation of the worm illustrated    [2 marks]
(ii)    Name two other worms that infest humans  [ 2 marks]                      

    (c)  State two methods of preventing the worm illustrate  [2 marks]                     

 

Observation

 

 

This question was attempted by many candidates and their performance was poor.  In part (a)(i) candidates could not correctly identify the diagram as roundworm, they identified it as tapeworm and in (a)(ii) they also could not state the shape of the worm illustrated, in (a) (iii) candidates also wrongly the part of the human body in which the roundworm lines as stomach instead of intestine  or small intestine, in (a) (iv) few candidates mentioned organisms in which the worm illustrated can be found and in (a)(v)

 

many candidates could not correctly mention the mode of feeding of the roundworm.  In part (b) (i) candidates could not correctly mention the sources of infestation of the roundworm and in (b)(ii) candidates correctly named other worms that infest humans.  In part (c) majority of the candidates correctly stated methods of preventing the roundworm.
