Observation

 

Many candidates attempted this question and their performance was good. In part (a)  many candidates could correctly highlight four rights of a consumer. In part (b) many candidates were able to mention ways of preventing infectious diseases.
The expected answers are as follow:
(a)       RIGHTS OF A CONSUMER

  • right to choose from variety of goods
  • right to be heard when one is not satisfied
  • right to be informed and protected
  • right to report the sales of sub-standard goods
  • right to consumer education
  • right to safety
  • right to know manufacturing/expiry date
  • right to seek redress

 (b)      WAYS OF PREVENTING INFECTIOUS DISEASES

  • maintenance of good personal hygiene
  • isolation of infected person
  • keeping the environment clean always
  • routine medical check-up
  • avoidance of indiscriminate sexual intercourse
  • washing hands after visitation to toilet
  • education of people through mass media/public enlightenment campaign
  • avoidance of sharing objects/materials with infected person e.g. syringe and needles, comb, blade e.t.c.
