This was a very straightforward question but in most cases, the candidates identified the effects of the colonial policies. They failed to identify the following points:
(i) It subordinated African traders to British trading firms.
(ii) Urban centres emerged at the trading centres, railways, sea and river ports.
(iii) There was rural-urban migration.
(iv) Emphasis was placed on the production of cash crops which led to the neglect of the production of staple crops.
(v) African youths developed more desire for European goods and
services, etc. |
