This was a popular question; many candidates understood its demand. In spite of recognizing and identifying relevant points, they produced disjointed answers; though a few of them demonstrated originality in the way they discussed the points. Candidates were expected to mention the following points in order to get good marks.

1. The Christian missionaries preached against some inhuman practices and thus encouraged some people to embrace Christianity.


2. They established schools.


3. The Bible was translated into different Nigerian languages.


4. They encouraged the promotion of legitimate trade to replace slave trade.


5. Introduction of new crops and farming techniques.


6. Hospitals and medical centres were established to reduce or eradicate diseases.


7. They introduced vocational institutions.


8. Training of Nigerian clergymen.


9. They built churches.


10. Establishment of orphanages.


11. Experimental farm were set up to promote agriculture.


12. Evangelism through preaching and distribution of Bibles and Christian tracks.


13. Focusing on the conversion of rulers as a means of reaching their subjects.
