This questions were well attempted. However, some candidates said traditional marriage is consummated in the shrine by the priest instead of writing about the payment of dowry, how it allows for polygamy etc. Some also talked of Mosque marriage instead of Muslim marriage.

The required answers to the questions are as follows:

2a.       Forms of Marriage:

1. Traditional or Customary Marriage: This is a form of marriage that is contracted in accordance with the laws and customs of the area. This differs from one area to another as we have different customs. It is
   contracted by the families of both bride and groom. During the traditional wedding ceremony bride price or dowry is paid. Polygamy
   is allowed.

            ll. Marriage by ordinance: This is also known as court marriage or  marriage in the registry because it                  is contracted in the court before a court registrar. It does not allow a second marriage except in case                   of divorce or the death of the first spouse. Marriage certificate is issued
                   by the court .

            iii. Church or Christian Marriage: This type of marriage is contracted in the church by a priest or pastor. It                   is a monogamous form of marriage where a man is allowed to marry only one wife. This marriage                  involves the issuing of marriage certificates to couples and such certificates are recognized by the                   Law Court. Wedding rings may be exchanged.

            iv.Muslim or Islamic Marriage: This is contracted in the ways stipulated by the Holy Quran. Muslim                   marriage can be contracted either in the Mosque or in an open place by the Muslim scholars.                    Muslim men are e allowed to marry more than one wife if they so wish and can afford it, but cannot                    have more than four wives at a time.
