(a)State two functions of each of the following:
(i) rent tribunal
(ii)postal services;
(iii)Standard Organization
(b) Suggest two guidelines for wise shopping.

Observation

The question on functions of postal services was well answered by most of the candidates.
Most of them did not answer the questions on functions of rent tribunal and standard organization well.
The required answers to the questions are as follows:
Functions of the following:
1. Rent Tribunal
Fixes standard rent for accommodation
Controls the ejection of a tenant by the landlord
Ensures payment of compensation "to tenant on any cost for repairs in the house incurred by the tenant.
Ensures payment of rent to the landlord on the agreed rate and time.
ii.Postal Service
Undertakes registration and delivery of registered items.
Ensures that dangerous materials are not sent to people through the mail
Ensures that valuables/letters are delivered safely Is responsible for the sale of stamps.
Helps with sales and payment of money and postal order.
Responsible for the provision of Private Mail Bags (PMB) and Post Office Boxes (POB)
Carries out registration of private postal services e.g. DHL, IMNL, etc
Operates savings account.
111. Standard Organization
Checks the adulteration of any food, drugs or cosmetics
Prohibits the sale of any goods that contain poisonous or harmful substances
Ensures that manufacturers conform with standard specifications of raw materials and products
Checks the importation of fake and expired goods into the country.
Checks false advertisements on foods, drugs and cosmetics Regulates labeling and packaging of goods, making sure they meet the required standard.
Prohibits the sale of expired products to consumers.
Imposes penalties on people who contravene the regulations.
Ensures certification of factories and laboratories.
b.Guidelines for wise shopping
Window shop to know prices of items
Make a shopping list, listing the items in order of priority or necessity;
Compare prices based on quantities and qualities;
Try to confine to the shopping list but be flexible when necessary.
Compare prices in several shops.
Buy in bulk
Bargain to cut down cost;
Buy when prices are low
