Question 4

    BAYO ADEBOWALE: Lonely Days

Comment on the writer’s narrative style in the novel.

Observation

Few candidates attempted this question. They merely mentioned the use of flashback and dialogue but did not give adequate examples from the novel to support their points.

The following points should have been well developed by the candidates:

• The writer adopts the omniscient perspective.

• The writer draws extensively from oral tradition.

• The writer makes use of flashback and dialogue.

• He uses local terms to add colour to the setting.

Candidates' performance in this question was poor.
