A good number of candidates attempted this question. Many of them spoke generally on the neglect of culture by Africans without making reference to the poem.

The required answers should include:

* Effects of civilisation on African cultural values.

* The poet’s unhappiness with the prevailing situation which he considers ridiculous and demeaning.

* The poet’s use of words/phrases to call attention to the neglect of ancestral counselling and guidance.

* His certainty that only ancestral guidance and counselling can solve their problem.

* The profitability of sticking to African culture.
