1.(a)Explain the following stages in design:
(i)investigation;
(ii)evaluation.
(b)Sketch a sand mould and label the following parts:
(i)cope;
(ii)sprue hole;
(iii)mould cavity;
(iv)vent holes.
(c)State two safety precautions to be observed when pouring molten metal.

OBSERVATION

Most of the candidates attempted this question with good performance. However, they had difficulty in providing the required response to part (a). The required response to part (a) ought to be:
(i)Investigation in design is a stage in designing where the designer finds out more information about the problem and suggests ways in which the problem could be solved.
 (ii) Evaluation in design is the final stage of the design process where the whole process is assessed against the specification.
