(a)        Explain the following design terms:
(i)         pre-conceived idea;
(ii)        annotation.

            (b)        Explain the following terms in machining:

                        (i)         chamfering;
(ii)        knurling.

            (c)        State two safety precautions that should be observed when chiseling.

            (d)       Sketch a straight knurling machine.

The candidates’ responses to part (a) were not correct, the other parts were well responded to. The required responses to part (a) are as follows:

(i)         pre-conceived idea: An opinion formed beforehand without adequate evidence.
(ii)        annotation: A note added to the possible solution to explain the
drawing in terms of shape, material, construction , function and reasons for accepting or rejecting the solution.
