  1. (i) Identify the set-up.

Some of the candidates could not even identify the set-up. The required responses to this question are as follows:

(a) (i) Identifying the set-up : Turning between centres    

 

(ii) Identifying the parts labelled J, K, L, M

 

J -  Driving plate
K -  Carrier
K -  Workpiece
M -  Tailstock                                                                             

 

(b) Stating the function of the parts labelled K, P and Q

 

K - it transmits motion from the face plate to the workpiece.
P - it is used to cut the workpiece to the required shape.
Q - it works in conjunction with the face plate to transmit motion to the carrier .

Grit refers to the abrasive particles of grinding wheels.
