  1. Highlight three first aid measures that should be taken if fire outbreak occurs in a mine leading to serious injury.
  2. Highlight the steps in reporting mine accident.
  3. State four measures that should be taken by mine operators to prevent occurrence of accidents in a mine.

This question was fairly popular among the candidates and they performed well in the (a) aspect of the question. However, they did not perform well in the (b) and (C) parts of the question. The steps in the reporting mine accidents are:

  • Contact the mine manager or his assistant immediately
  • Call relation(s) of the affected victim(s)
  • Report to the police
  • Report to the Office of Mines Inspectorate Department in the state

 

The measures that should be taken by mine operators to prevent occurrence of accidents in as mine include:

  • proper planning of mine
  • proper sanitation of mine
  • proper monitoring of mine operation
  • proper placement of tools and equipment at the right places in mines
  • having a culture of safety in mines.
  • proper mine ventilation.
  • safety committee meetings to evaluate safety measures
  • maintaining the proper stock of the first aid box in the mine.
  • adequate training of first aid personnel in the mine.
  • provision of safety signs.
