  • (a) State  five effects of exercise on the heart.                                     [5 marks]
                (b) State five  values of recreation to an individual.                            [5 marks]

    Observation

    This question was attempted by many candidates and the  candidates’ performance was fair.  In part (a) candidates could not state effects of exercise on the heart.  Candidates wrote exercise makes blood to circulate, exercise stops the heart from working.  It aids blood clotting, it helps the heart to have diseases.  

    In part (b) few candidates could not state values of recreation to an individual, candidates wrote it is voluntary, it is non-survival, it is constructive.

    The expected answers were as follows:

    10(a)    Effects of exercise on the heart     
    -           strengths the muscles of the heart;
    -           increase heart rate/beat;
    -           increases stroke volume/amount of blood;
    -           increases the weight of the heart;
    -           improve efficiency of the heart;
    -           increases the size of heart;
    -           exercise prevents heart related diseases.

       (b)     Value of recreation:
                -           develops individual talents/skills;
                -           provides enjoyment;
                -           provides relaxation and entertainment
                -           helps in social interaction of the individual.
