    (a)        List five materials used by the centre referee during a football match     (5 marks)

    (b)        State five duties of the assistant referee during a football match     (5 marks)

Observation

This question was attempted by many candidates and their performance was fair. 
            In part  (a) candidates correctly listed materials used by the centre referee during a
            football match although, few wrongly listed hose, flag, boot and jersey as materials used
            by the centre referee.   In part (b) many candidates stated wrong answers such as assistant
            referee over rules.  The center referee, the assistant referee has the final decision over result
            and infringements, the assistant referee can enter the field of play at any time to press for
            issues with the centre referee.

            However, the expected answers are as follows:
           
            2(a)      MATERIALS USED BY THE CENTRE REFEREE DURING
                        A FOOTBALL MATCH
                         
                        -           whistle
                        -           plain sheets/writing or scribble pad
                        -           yellow card
                                -           red card
                        -           stop watch/wrist watch                                                                                                             -           writing materials/named pen, biro, pencil
                                                                                                             
               
            (b)        DUTIES OF THE ASSISTANT REFEREE DURING A
                        FOOTBALL MATCH

            -           indicates direction of play/throw after infringement
            -           indicates when the ball goes over the touh lines/sidelines/throw in
            -           indicates when the ball goes over the goal line/corner kick
            -           signals to the referee for infringements committed
            -           assists the referee for useful information
            -           indicates when a player is offside
            -           indicates when substitution is requested
            -           each takes charge of each half of the field
            -           assist in signaling when time is up
