Observation

This question was attempted by many candidates and their performance was
            poor.  In part (a) (i) candidates could not correctly say what ergogenic aid mean,
            candidates gave wrong  definition of ergogenic aid as any external influence that
            can be determined to enhance information that can be determined to enhance
            information in high intensive exercise  and in (a)(ii) Candidates gave wrong answers
            such as mechanical, physiological as examples of ergogenic aids.  In part (b)(i) candidates
            could not correctly state the main difference between  the award given to a winner in
            the ancient Olympic Games and the Modern Olympic Games and in (b)(ii) candidates
            correctly stated values of Physical Education to the Society meanwhile, few went off the track.

            The expected answers are as follows:

4(a)(i)  ERGOGENIC AID

            Ergogenic aid is any substance/means/named taken to aid/enhance performance, delay
            fatigue and hasten recovery in sports activities OR
            Any substance of means/named that improves physical performance through its effects on the             body.

   (ii)     EXAMPLE OF ERGOGENIC AIDS       

            -           cocaine
            -           steroid
            -           heroine
            -           tobacco
            -           alcohol
            -           marijuana
            -           Indian hemp
            -           ephedrine
            -           antioxidant
            -           caffeine
            -           vitamins

(b)(i)    DIFFERENCES IN THE AWARD BETEEN MODERN AND ANCIENT
            OLYMPICS

            In the ancient Olympics, a wreath of olive branch was presented to a winner but in the
            modern Olympics a winner receives medals/trophy/named.  

  (ii)      VALUES OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION IN THE SOCIETY

            -           serves as mean of livelihood/offers career opportunity.
            -           development of leadership, followership, loyalty, honesty and sense of fair play/values.
            -           development of fundamental motor skills.
            -           development and maintaining sound and physical functioning of individual and society
            -           avenue for improving health and physical fitness/body beauty/aesthetics.
            -           development of socially acceptable behavior.
            -           forum for providing formal education.
